Jean-Yves Péron's La Petite Robe is a lovely example of what Jacquère can do with a bit of skin contact. Whole bunches of Jacquère, all sourced from limestone and clay-rich plots in Chignin, get a proper 15-day maceration before being aged for a year in a mix of barrels and large foudres. What you get is a wine of real subtlety – gentle herby aromatics with a lovely zip of acidity that keeps things fresh and bright. This is the kind of bottle that's best enjoyed in one sitting with good company, showcasing how a bit of extended skin contact can add depth without overwhelming the grape's inherent elegance.
