Vintage: 2022

Region: Pantelleria, Sicily, Italy

Grapes: Catarratto & Pignatello

Alcohol: 12.5%

Crafted on the unique, sun-drenched volcanic island of Pantelleria, this low-intervention blend features a mix of white Catarratto and red Pignatello grapes harvested from sixty-year-old vines. Following the estate's earthy winemaking traditions, the grapes are de-stemmed, foot-crushed, and placed into unlined, porous clay amphorae buried directly in the ground near the vineyard. The juice macerates on the skins for eight to fifteen days before being pressed and returned to the buried vessels. It then rests untouched for four to six months, allowing the wine to express its true essence before being bottled with absolutely zero additions.

In the glass, it pours the colour of a brick-tinged Nebbiolo, perfectly capturing the wild, windswept character of its island terroir. It is packed with inviting notes of dusty black fruit, floral cherry blossom, and exotic spices, all underpinned by a distinct maritime salinity carried in by the Sirocco winds. The ancient clay vessels impart a beautiful, granular texture that balances detailed structural layers with an elegant smoothness and seductive drinkability. Finishing with herbal, amaro-esque bitters, this ever-evolving wine is best enjoyed with a light chill and a few moments to open up in the glass.
