L’Equilibriste Rouge is a pure Pinot Noir produced from the same vineyards as Marc’s Côteaux de Dijon, but it is crafted with a specific goal in mind: immediate, high-energy enjoyment. Following the "razor’s edge" balancing act theme of its circus-inspired label, Marc uses a 100% whole-bunch, semi-carbonic maceration to extract intense fruit without heavy tannins. The wine matures for about 10 to 12 months in seasoned wooden barrels and is bottled without filtration, fining, or any added sulphur, keeping the profile as natural and vibrant as possible.
The 2023 vintage pours a deep, concentrated ruby colour, offering a nose that is surprisingly dark and spicy for a light-touch Pinot. You can expect aromas of sour cherries, cranberries, and black pepper, along with a distinct stemmy freshness from the whole-cluster fermentation. On the palate, it is incredibly juicy and bright, with a pulsating acidity and flavours of liquorice and tart red berries. It is a lively, fluid wine that works brilliantly when served slightly cool at a barbecue or with a simple spread of cured meats.
