Montrecul is a fascinating single-site vineyard located on a steep, east-facing slope right on the edge of Dijon. The name is a bit of a local joke—dating back to the days of hand-harvesting, the slope was so steep that workers below would get a "view" up the coats of those working above (literally translating to "show your tail"). Marc Soyard treats this unique terroir with the same precision he learned at Domaine Bizot, using a 70% whole-bunch fermentation with native yeasts. The wine is aged in old Burgundy barrels with almost no sulphur, allowing the influence of the hard Comblanchien limestone scree and white oolite soils to really come through.

The 2022 vintage offers a classic ruby colour and a nose that is beautifully lifted, mixing wild red fruits with herbal notes and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is light-bodied and elegant, but it definitely has a "vibrating string" tension to it—vibrant, taut, and precise. You will find flavours of sour cherry and blackcurrant bud, finished off with a distinct mineral saltiness and a lingering hint of liquorice. It is a sophisticated, high-energy Pinot Noir that pairs perfectly with roast poultry, grilled mushrooms, or even a bit of duck breast.
