Silice Rouge is a charming blend of Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Mondeuse from west- and south-facing slopes in the villages of Saint-Pierre-de-Soucy and Fréterive on clay-limestone scree. The fruit is fully destemmed with a short maceration before seven months of ageing in tanks to preserve its Alpine freshness. The fruit dances between blue and red berry flavours – think strawberries, blueberries, and currants – with that characteristic black pepper spice and a lick of alpine herbs that makes this blend so distinctive. On the palate, it's silky and dynamic with a distinctly fresh, clean bite and lovely mineral backbone from those steep slopes. This is the kind of wine that deserves a good chill and even better company – perfect with charcuterie, roast poultry, or just as a pure-fruited expression made for maximum drinking pleasure on a summer picnic.
