Vintage: 2023
Origin: Sopron, Hungary
Grapes: Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir
Alcohol: 12%
This playful wine is a unique blend of the entire Pinot family: Gris, Blanc, and Noir, sourced from calcareous soils in the Sopron region of Hungary. What began as a planting error in the vineyard inspired this creative style, where the Pinot Blanc and Gris are fermented together on their skins while the Pinot Noir is directly pressed. The wine is spontaneously fermented and bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur, resulting in a vibrant liquid that sits somewhere between an orange wine and a rosé.
Aromatically, the wine is complex and floral, offering notes of pink grapefruit, mirabelle plum, and ripe stone fruit alongside hints of rose petals and herbal spice. On the palate, it is fresh and light with a tiny initial fizziness and fine, integrated tannins. Flavours of orange, mango, and mild sour cherry lead into a pleasant herbal aftertaste. It is an exceptional value, characterful wine that works perfectly with grilled vegetables or simply enjoyed on a summer evening.
