Henri Chauvet, a former banker who swapped the office for the vineyard, presents a unique take on old-vine Carignan from the Languedoc. While this grape is often known for being heavy, Ciel à Perdre is surprisingly light and "weightless." These organic vines grow on sandstone, and the grapes undergo a three-week whole-bunch maceration followed by 18 months of careful ageing.
The wine is bright and translucent, offering a mix of tangy red berries, wild violets and a refreshing touch of eucalyptus. It is juicy and supple with very soft tannins and minimal added sulphur. If you think you know Carignan, this elegant and airy bottle might just change your mind.
