When most people hear the word Tokaji, they immediately think of sweet dessert wines. However, Tokaj can make some fantastic dry wines, as proved by this Tokaji 2018 by Attila Homonna. The grapes for this traditional mix of Furmint and Harslevelu come from various plots of old vines (40-80 years old). The grapes are destemmed and crushed in a basket press, allowing the fruit to shine through. Until bottling, the wine is matured on the lees in old barrels. Furmint adds a high level of acidity to this wine, and the Harslevelu adds a velvety texture as well as honey and floral notes. The volcanic soils on which the grapes were grown contribute to the wine's wonderful minerality. Perfect as an aperitif or with fish and light meats.
