The 2020 Elbling Alte Reben was prepared using fruit collected from almost 40-year-old vines and fermented and matured with minimal intervention. Dostert mostly whole-cluster pressed this wine but did “a little” skin contact. White flowers (lily, may tree, lime tree), vineyard peach, hay, excellent spices, and fresh almonds are all present in its exquisitely delicate and graceful nose. The wine first has a round and slightly juicy palate but rapidly develops a touch of acidity that is mainly driven by lime and grapefruit. This is a fantastic wine to try a truly rare grape varietal, with some ageing potential to be found as well.
