This absolutely fascinating wine comes from Jonas Dostert, one of the most exciting talents to emerge from the Mosel in recent years, working right on the Luxembourg border with organically farmed vines and minimal sulphur additions. Karambolage is Jonas's entry-level wine, but don't let that fool you - it's distinctly different from the rest of his range and shows the same masterful craftsmanship throughout. Made from equal parts Elbling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris that's macerated for 10 days, this is Jonas's only orange wine, and it's got character in spades. The resulting wine is a gorgeous coral pink that catches your eye straight away, cloudier and slightly wilder than his other bottles but in the best possible way. The nose draws you in with delicious wild berries and sweet herbs, leading to an elegant palate packed with plum skin and blood orange flavours, all lifted by bright acidity and finishing with that lovely salty mineral edge. It's sublime - just the right mix of classic, fresh, and wild all at once, with added richness from the relatively young Burgundy barrels Jonas uses. This is such a unique and genuinely fun wine to drink, and it'll be fascinating to see how it develops with a bit of bottle age.
