La Lune serves as the flagship white of the domaine, acting as a masterclass in Chenin Blanc. It is crafted from a rigid selection of grapes sourced across 1.5 hectares of various Chenin parcels, excluding only Les Fouchardes and the oldest vineyards. These vines are grown using a sapling system with low yields of approximately 40 quintals per hectare. In the cellar, the process begins with a soft pressing, followed by spontaneous fermentation driven by indigenous yeasts. The wine then rests for 12 months on its fine lees in stoneware amphorae. Although produced within the Anjou region, it is intentionally declassified to Vin de France, reflecting Mark Angeli’s unique winemaking philosophy.
The 2024 vintage is an elegant, fresh, and exceptionally pure white wine that moves sinuously across the palate. It is characterised by a hauntingly pure and textural mouthfeel, displaying crystalline minerality and a pleasing bitter edge derived from the local schist soils. While the wine is almost always bottled with some residual sugar—the levels of which vary with each vintage—it maintains a graceful finesse and a tasty, savoury profile. The finish is notably long and deep, showcasing the original character of the fruit. Because of the residual sugar, the wine is lightly filtered before bottling to ensure stability while preserving its vibrant, mineral core.
