Since the late 1980s, Mark Angeli has been a revolutionary figure in the Loire, transforming his 7-hectare estate, Ferme de la Sansonnière, into one of the most in-demand natural wine producers in the world. A former chemistry student and stonemason, Angeli abandoned the chemical-heavy practices of the era to introduce biodynamic farming from the outset, focusing on creating a healthy, biodiverse environment for his vines. While he produces exceptional red wines from Grolleau and Cabernet Franc, he is most famous for redefining Chenin Blanc, pivoting away from traditional sweet styles to produce iconic dry wines like "La Lune" that are celebrated for their vibrant acidity, crystalline complexity, and immense ageability. Intentionally declassified to Vin de France to maintain his innovative winemaking standards, Angeli’s limited annual production of 20,000 bottles is highly allocated and a staple in the world’s finest restaurants, cementing his legacy as a mentor who has shaped a new generation of talent in Anjou.
