This serious, low-intervention terroir wine is made from 100% Silvaner, the signature grape of Germany's Franken region. The fruit comes from one of Martin’s oldest vineyard parcels, planted in the late 1980s over highly calcareous Muschelkalk limestone, a soil rich in fossilised shells and ancient marine deposits. The winemaking process is incredibly patient: whole bunches are foot-trodden and macerated for a day before pressing. The wine then ages for its first year in old German oak barrels, followed by another 11 months in stainless steel tanks, before being bottled with absolutely no additions.
The nearly two-year ageing process yields a pure, high-energy white wine with immense presence and verve. The unique limestone soils imprint a precise, chiselled acidity and deep minerality that perfectly structures the wine. It is an impressive and beautifully focused expression of Silvaner that is drinking wonderfully now but has the structure to age beautifully for years to come.
