Vintage: 2024

Origin: Balatonfüred-Csopak, Hungary

Grapes: Kékfrankos (Blaufrankisch)

Alcohol: 14%

If you are looking for a red wine that is incredibly easy to drink without sacrificing character, this medium-bodied Kékfrankos (also known as Blaufränkisch) hits the mark perfectly. It gets its vibrant energy from a clever winemaking technique. Two-thirds of the hand-picked grapes are pressed to extract the juice, which is then poured directly over the remaining intact bunches. They ferment together in open vats for 12 days. This semi-carbonic method pulls out all the bright, juicy fruit flavours while keeping the tannins silky smooth.

After fermentation, the wine rests on its lees in a mix of French and Hungarian oak barrels for nine months. This ageing process adds a lovely depth and gentle texture to the final pour. In the glass, expect a lively hit of sour cherry and fresh red berries mixed with a delicate spice and an earthy, volcanic mineral edge. Bottled without any fining or filtering, it is a fresh, elegant and effortlessly fluid red.
