Ora is a deeply structured blend that's rustic in the best possible way, showcasing the diversity of Hungary's volcanic terroirs. 30% comes from Annamária's own 50-55 year old vines of Királyleányka, Rhein Riesling, and Hárslevelű that she and her parents have revived in Barabás, whilst 70% is Furmint from a certified organic grower in the Tokaj village of Mád. All the fruit grows in volcanic soils – rhyolite, andesite, dacite, and volcanic tuff, rocks that were once literally liquid fire. The Furmint was destemmed and spent two weeks on the skins with basket pressing and punch downs, whilst her own fruit was picked together as a field blend and co-fermented in egg-shaped fermenters – a mixture of whole cluster and destemmed, spending 4-5 days on skins before basket pressing to finish in fibreglass. The two parts were blended in August 2022. What emerges is full of life – ripe apples, damp earth, smoky tar, and mint opening up to hibiscus, orange blossom, apricot, and floral honey. The acidity plays its own note, quietly at first, then building, with yuzu, lime, chilli, sandalwood, and black tea providing depth and resonance. This is a bottled melancholic masterpiece – sensual, uncompromising, and so alive.
