Safari is an adventure through the grapes of the Schodl family, showcasing almost everything on offer in the vineyards. Ripe and healthy grapes were harvested and macerated with whole bunches in the press for a couple of hours. After pressing the juice went through fermentation in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels to maintain freshness and fruitness. The Muscat was fermented on the skins for 10 days to gain deep herbal aromatics, texture and tannins before being aged in big oak casks. The wine shows a flowery nose with notes of grapefruit, apple and spiciness. A lower ABV makes this the perfect summer thirst quencher or meal partner.
The Schodls, Viktoria, Mathias and Leonhard, are a winemaking family to keep an eye on. The wines are already showing well ahead of their age, with 2023 being their fourth vintage making natural wines. Practicing biodynamic winemaking, and forging ahead with their own unique style, these are truly world class wines coming out of the Weinviertel.
