Marsannay has a rich history of crafting celebratory pink wines dating back to the end of the First World War, and biodynamic winemaker Sylvain Pataille is taking that tradition to brilliant new heights. He works with ancient Pinot Noir and Pinot Beurot vines grown in white marl and limestone soils usually reserved for white grapes. By combining direct pressing with a short skin maceration and ageing the juice in large oak barrels for up to two years, he builds a wine with immense structure and the precise texture of a fine white.
The result is a deeply complex pour that behaves much more like a light red than your standard summer pink. It bursts with vivid raspberry, fresh redcurrant, and nostalgic summer pudding flavours, all backed by a savoury aroma and a bright mineral core. With a delicate grip of tannin and remarkable persistence on the palate, this is an outstanding, food-friendly bottle that actually rewards patience, evolving beautifully if you manage to keep it tucked away in the cellar for a couple of years.
